Native Plants Journal (NPJ) is accepting applications for a new editor-in-chief pending the retirement of the current editor, Dr. Stephen Love at the University of Idaho. Native Plants Journal began in January 2000 as a cooperative effort of the USDA Forest Service and the University of Idaho, with assistance from the USDA Agricultural Research Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. It is an eclectic forum for dispersing practical information about planting and growing North American (Canada, Mexico, and the United States) native plants for conservation, restoration, reforestation, landscaping, highway corridors, and related uses. It includes articles that are useful to and understandable by growers and planters of North American native plants and that contribute significantly to the scientific literature.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the editorial process for NPJ, including managing the peer review process, arranging for cover photographs for each of the 3 issues per year, and review of issue layout at first typeset page proofs.
- Encourage and solicit submissions submissions to NPJ
- Work closely with authors, reviewers, and the associate editors, and the managing editor to ensure timely and high-quality publication of articles.
- Develop and implement editorial policies, procedures, and guidelines that promote the mission and goals of the journal.
- Collaborate with the journal's publisher to ensure the efficient production and distribution of each issue.
- Represent the journal at conferences, meetings, and events, and actively promote the journal to potential authors, readers, and subscribers.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have knowledge of the academic peer review process and experience in reviewing papers for academic journals. This position requires someone who will enjoy working closely with the editorial team and who has enthusiasm to help shape the Native Plants Journal by upholding our mission to sustain a platform for innovative research at the practice/theory interface in landscape architecture and allied fields. All candidates should hold an academic post in a relevant field such as ecology, botany, horticulture, conservation biology, or other plant-related work. Consideration will be given to those in relevant industries who have published papers and understand the value of sharing and expanding knowledge.
