Abstract
‘Iliahi or Hawaiian sandalwood (Santalum freycinetianum Gaudich. [Santalaceae]) is a hemiparasitic plant that can be readily grown in the nursery, provided some general guidelines are followed. Seeds germinate best if scarified and sown fresh. Plants can be grown to outplanting size (20 cm [8.0 in] tall with stems 8 mm [0.3 in] in diameter) in just 8 to 12 mo using controlled release fertilizer. The best survival and growth occurs when sandalwood is grown with a companion plant.
